The Gathering 2008 Recap
I (Jake Chism) recently attended the second annual “The Gathering” weekend, an event put on and dedicated to fans of the writing of Ted Dekker. Nearly 300 people came from all over the US (even 2 from Canada) to be there. Even Eric Wilson, author of the upcoming Field of Blood vampire tale, was on hand for the festivities.
Here are some things that were revealed during the course of the event:
- There are 2 more “Lost Books” coming out next May.
- Dekker confirmed that he is indeed working on a new book called Green that will be “the mother of all trips.” It is scheduled for 2009 sometime. Dekker says it is the beginning and the end of the Circle Trilogy and The Books of History Chronicles…whatever that means.
- Advance Reader Copies of Sinner were given away and I will have a review of that up in the near future both here and at my own site, www.bookshelfreview.com.
- The film version of Dekker and [Frank] Peretti’s House was shown. The film will boast an R rating, despite the fact it contains no cussing, sex/nudity, and minimal violence. The rating is likely for the film’s intense horror.
- Ted Dekker’s people have signed a three (3) film deal with Lionsgate Entertainment and his latest work Adam is apparently already in pre-production.
- More graphic novels are also under way. Chosen and Infidel will be released this fall followed by Renegade and Chaos later in the year. Showdown, Saint, and Sinner will follow those.
- Check out this 7 minute video that was created for the event. Caution, there are major spoilers if you haven’t read the Circle Trilogy, Showdown, and Saint.
